MR. W. J. POLSON TO STAND

INDEPENDENT ATTITUDE Press Association STRATFORD, Tuesday. Urged by delegates from all parts of the Stratford electorate at Stratford to-day, Air. W. J. Poison, president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, consented to contest the seat at the coming election. He stated definitely that he opposed the present Government, but his attitude would be an independent one. He was satisfied there would emerge from the election a party which would give the country more efficient and representative government. He hoped to be able to support such party. Air. E. Walter, the sitting member for Stratford, who won the seat for Reform at the last election, and Mr. J. B. Hine, a former member, have signified willingness to stand in the Reform Party interests. Strong representations have been made to Air. R. Alasters, who defeated Air. Hine in 1919, and was for six years Liberal member for Stratford, to contest the seat in opposition to Reform, but he declined for business reasons. MID-CANTERBURY SEAT Press Association. * ASHBURTON, Tuesday. Air. H. M. Jones, who contested the Ashburton seat as a Liberal at the last election, will stand for mid-Can-A petition asking the Hon. W. Nosworthy to reconsider- his decision not zo contest the seat already contains 400 signatures, mostly of residents of the borough and environs.
