“BIG BLUFF”

WAR MEMORIAL ACT MT. WELLINGTON PROTESTS During the discussion regarding the Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Act, at last evening’s meeting of the Mount Welington Road Board, some caustic remarks were made by the members. Mr. J. Woods protested against the Bill, as the committee had evaded the main issue as to how the money raised from the local bodies is to be expended. The question of displaying the exhibits at schools throughout the contributing area, was described as “a big bluff” to raise the money.

Criticism was also levelled at the proposed Act, because the subsidy was not limited, and with the growth of the population of the district, the levy would increase indefinitely.

It was unanimously decided that the board protest against the proposed Act, and that it circularise all local bodies regarding its decision.
