NEW DENTAL CLINIC OPENED AT HENDERSON

ADJUNCT TO SCHOOL Saturday was a notable day for the Henderson primary school, when the new dental clinic was officially opened by Mr. A. Burns , chairman of the Auckland Education Board. A large assembly of parents and residents witnessed the ceremony. Mr. Burns congratulated the people of Henderson on their efforts to assist in bearing- part of the cost of the clinic. There had been many applications for such clinics and the board in some cases could offer little hope of providing them for many years. When the dental treatment system was introduced the Government had not anticipated the great demand that had arisen and it was difficult to find the money and nurses required. Under the present system only the younger children obtained treatment, continued Mr. Burns, and it was essential that the clinics should be open to to the higher standards. While this would involve the expenditure of a large sum, it would be justified, and if the money could not be found otherwise, it would be true economy to reduce the expenditure in other directions and so put dental treatment within the reach of all children. Comprising three rooms, a surgery, a nurse’s room and a waiting-room, the building cost £250. Of this sum £BB was subscribed by people of the district. Provision has been made for enlargement to a two-chair clinic when future requirements warrant the change.
