Father's 24 Fines
FAILED TO SEND GIRL TO SCHOOL At Flemington Court in Melbourne recently, Alexander Holmes, of Kensington, was charged on four counts with having failed to send his daughter Dorothy, aged 13J years, to school. James Joseph Duncan, truancy inspector, said: “Dorothy Holmes has not attended school at all this year. Her father has been fined on 54 occasions for having failed to send his children to school. Mr. D. Grant, P.M.: It is clear that the defendant intends to deprive his child of her education. Holmes, who did not appear, was fined 7s 6d, in default imprisonment for 12 hours, ou each of the four charges.
