The Devonport sub-branch of the Navy League held one of its successful dances in the League Hall, Church Street, last evening. Airs. Miss Purser, black floral ring velvet. Miss Bailey, mandarin blue-pleated georgette. Aliss Cooksey, black lace frock. Aliss G. Alelville, gold satin crepe. Aliss Hegh, black velvet, with rose relief. Aliss Aluston, Japanese blue georgette. PENWOMEN’S LEAGUE Th© League of Penwomen in Auckland has a membership of 108 professional members in addition to a large list of associate members. This fact was revealed at yesterday’s annual meeting, over which the president, Mrs. Alary Stuart Boyd, presided. Specialised activities, it was stated, included sections for literature study, drama, arts and crafts, journalism, impromptu speaking and music. In the election of officers Mrs. Stuart Boyd was re-elected president; Mrs. Cluett, Airs. Carr Rollett; Dr. Alildred Staley, Aliss Elsie K. Alorton, Aliss G. Bertram and Airs. S. J. Hutchinson, vice-presidents; Airs. Victor Alacky, hon. organising secretary; Airs. Hutchinson, hon. assistant-secretary and treasurer; Airs. Barr, hon. librarian. The conveners of sections are to be included in the committee membership. Warm tributes were paid to the officers of the league, the conveners, the president and the organising secretary for their work. AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Maude, second daughter of Air. and Airs. W. H. Short, of Te Awamutu, to Irvine, youngest son of Air. and Airs. J. T. AlcHarg. of Christchurch.
