The Devonport sub-branch of the Navy League held one of its successful dances in the League Hall, Church Street, last evening. Airs. This fact was revealed at yesterday’s annual meeting, over which the president, Mrs. Alary Stuart Boyd, presided. Specialised activities, it was stated, included sections for literature study, drama, arts and crafts, journalism, impromptu speaking and music. In the election of officers Mrs. Stuart Boyd was re-elected president; Mrs. Cluett, Airs. Carr Rollett; Dr. Alildred Staley, Aliss Elsie K. Alorton, Aliss G. Bertram and Airs. S. J. Hutchinson, vice-presidents; Airs. Victor Alacky, hon. organising secretary; Airs. Hutchinson, hon. assistant-secretary and treasurer; Airs. Barr, hon. librarian. The conveners of sections are to be included in the committee membership. Warm tributes were paid to the officers of the league, the conveners, the president and the organising secretary for their work. AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Maude, second daughter of Air. and Airs. W. H. Short, of Te Awamutu, to Irvine, youngest son of Air. and Airs. J. T. AlcHarg. of Christchurch.
