SMOULDERING MATTRESS
FIRE AT REMUERA The smoke from a smouldering mattress in an empty house at 10 Standen Avenue attracted the attention of neighbours this morning. The Remuera Fire Brigade was called and found that the house was filled with smoke. The mattress had evidently been smouldering for some hours. A man has been baching in the house but he had evidently gone away early this morning. The name of the owner or of the late occupant is not available. No damage was done except to the mattress and the stretcher.
Maori Chieftainship. —Mr. George I Graham will address the anthropology 1 section of the Auckland Institute on i Monday night on Maori chieftainship.
