DEPEW’S £2,000.000. —The late Mr. Chauncey M. Depew, by his will, disposed of £2,000,000, half of which he to charity, including a gift of £200,000 to Yale University, where he Was a student.—United Service. TORTURE CHARGE. —A message from Kovno, Lithuania, says the chief of police, Radchis, has been acquitted on the charge of torturing political suspects.—Australian Press Association. CONDEMNED TO DEATH. —-A wireless message from Tulagi says Fireal, a native, was convicted of the murder of the cadet, Mr. Lillies, who was shot in the rising at Malaita in October, 1927 and was condemned to death. NEW GUINEA GOLD. —Mr. Booth, who was one of the first men at the Edie Creek goldfields at Bulolo, New Guinea, is visiting Sydney. He says the alluvial gold is giving out. Only 70 miners are left on the field who are working their original claims. JAPANESE DIET. —At the extraordinary sesstion of the Diet, convened for to-day, a Speaker and officials will be elected. A formal ceremony on Monday will be conducted by the Emperor in person.—United Service.
