MAD DRUNK IN CAR
YOUTH'S WILD CAREER LONG SERIES OF CHARGES COMPENSATION ORDERED A boy, aged 17, drank whisky on February 25. The result was six charges against him at the Police Court to-day. These charges were: Converting a car valued at £2OO. to his own use; being intoxicated while in control of a car; driving without a licence; causing bodily injury to David Thompson; '.daqiagihg the car to the extent of £6 5s 6d, and finally, with damaging a verandah post valued at £lO. The accused had pleaded guilty to all charges in February, but sentence was postponed' pending the discharge of David Thompson from hospital.
Accused had- “borrowed” the car, and as a result of his intoxication Thompson . was knocked. down and seriously injured. The other damage followed. Mr.-J. J. Sullivan said that accused was a nervous boy, and the liquor had sent him mad. The man injured had not lost much, for he had been unemployed for five years. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that the hospital expenses amounted to £23. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. ordered accused to pay Thompson £35 compensation anti convicted and discharged. him on the other charges.
