TROTTING

(By

“ABAYDOS.")

NOTES AND COMMENTS SOUTHERN JOTTINGS TRAINERS KEPT BUSY With the approach of the For bury Fark fixture, which will be shortly followed by the Metropolitan Club’s one-day meeting, the tracks at Addington and New Brighton present a busy appearance, but there is not a great deal of fast work being executed. Still Flying Native Chief is doing well at Addington. Recently he worked a mile

in 2.10 in the centre of the track, one half in 1.1, and six furlongs in 1.32. Later On Fight Ever is sore, and is having a spell. The roan is a good sort, and when dressed in his best is capable of picking up a good stake. Not in Form Western Voyage is included in W. J. Tomkinson’s team in solid work, but so far he has not struck form. He is a good looker. Forbury Favourites Logan Park and Terence Dillon are the ruling favourites for the Dunedin Cup, and both should race prominently. May Effect a Surprise St. Maura Is overdue, and may effect a surprise in the big race at Dunedin. Getting Ready for Otahuhu King Pointer, who won two races at Auckland, was placed on 2.14 in the sprints at Forbury. The handi-

cap did not appeal to his connections, as he has been scratchced for all engagements. Auckland will see him again next month. That Great Event Following on a dose of physic, Great Bingen is in work again, and is expected to strip a fit horse next month for his match with Native Chief. On Holiday B. Withers is enjoying a rest at Timaru, and his head man, F. Bennett, is in charge of the team. Not Yet Ready Bold Bill, recently trained by J. S. Shaw at Alexandra Park, is now in N. C. Price’s stable at New Brighton. The Great Aydubon gelding is light in condition, and it will be some time before he is at his best. A Promising Youngster One of the most promising two-year-olds in training at Addington is a gelding by Pedro Pronto from Alone by Wildwood Junior. Black in colour, and a fine pacer, this youngster is owned by J. J. Kennerley. Doubtful Starter Silk Thread is suffering from a splint, and is a doubtful starter at Forbury Park. Reefton Representatives The Reefton-owned trio, Vesuvius, Thorpie, and Rightfoot, have recently

joined A. Cox’s string at Addington. They should do ■ well when properly placed. \ A Strenuous Time Cannonball does not appear to be training on as well as expected, and would probably benefit by a spell. Changed Quarters R. B. Berry has left New Brighton, and in future his team will be trained privately at Templeton, where he has purchased a property. Useful Maiden Dundas Boy, in R. B. Berry's stabie, is a useful maiden. He is engaged at Forbury Park. Another Shift Round Acron is now under G. S. Smith’s care. He looks well, and will sport silk at Addington next month.
