IN THE MARKET PLACE VEGETABLES IN SHORT SUPPLY DEARER EGGS Vegetables are falling off in supply in the city marts. Eggs arts also offering in decreased quantities and the market has firmed over the past day or so. Fruit sells freely at practically unchanged rates. Strawberries are advancing in price and the quality is falling off. One decent shower of rain on the beds would see the end of the season. Stone fruit is meeting with a very fair demand. A large quantity of Otago apricots are arriving on the market in poor condition and consequently shippers have not met with a very keen demand. Hot-house grapes are slightly easier in price and ample supplies meet a fairly steady sale. A shipment of bananas came to hand ex the Tofua yesterday. The bulk of these will be sold green on the wharf, leaving the balance to be disposed of in the marts. Apples are only meeting with a mediocre demand with little inquiry for small grades. In the field and garden produce section the long spell of dry weather is now having an appreciable effect, and supplies are decreasing with a corresponding increase in values. Supplies of eggs have also fallen off over the past week, and, with a better demand which has set in over the period, prices have advanced 2d to 3d a dozen. The manager reports as follows:—“Driving north on the dropper has been extended 15ft for the week, making a total distance driven in this direction of 130 ft. This reef is maintaining its size of about 2ft and has all the characteristics of making values. On the Sons of Freedom we have extended the drive from 9Sft to 110 ft, the width of the reef being about 2ft 6in. There is now a decided Improvement in the ore broken, and in the last breaking down a good deal of the ore showed coarse colours of gold, the best values being on the hangingwall portion about Ift in width, which is also carrying some nice silica and blend and occasionally a little ruby silver is seen. A further 30ft of driving will bring us under Radford’s Patch, and, as previously mentioned, the indications are favourable, and it is reasonable to expect good results as the drive advances.” OCCIDENTAL UNA.—The manager reports: “At the north end of the Occidental No. 1 reef, the necessary timbering has now been completed, making a block of ore available for stoping of over 50ft. This is from the crosscut back to the main travelling way. At the south end nice dabs of gold were secured in the stope going south and the prospect looks good. At the footwall dropper, stoping has been commenced, but no quartz has yet been broken.” KURANUL—The manager reports for the week ending January 21, 1925: “The crosscut from the surface has ueen extended a further 12 feet for the week, making a total of 103 feet from the starting point. "We are still penetrating the same class of country. with no quartz having been yet met with. The drive on the leader in the footwall of the main reef has been extended eight feet for the week, making a total of 120 feet from the crosscut. In this drive we cut a reef to-day running at right angles to the leader which we are iriving on. This reef looks to be about a foot wide, and the quartz that v.as broken looks very promising, being heavily mineralised, and showing a lair amount of silica and blend.”
