KAITIEKE COUNTY
MEETING OF COUNCIL At the monthly meeting of the Kaitieke County Council permission was granted to Messrs. Ha trick ancl Co., Ltd., to erect a telephone line from the Houseboat on the Wanganui River to Whakahoro. The Hon. K. S. Wililams, Minister of Public Works, advised that he would be glad to discuss with the Minister of Agriculture the matter of utilising the Deteriorated Lands Board for the: purpose of obtaining a report on the Waimarino, Retaruke and Te Waro special rating areas. Mr. P. Keller, district engineer, advised that £1,500 for the Kouturoa Road East, and £SOO for the new Mangaohuiu Road would be provided for out of the special back-blocks vote. It was resolved to hire the Taumarunui County Council’s grader for work on certain county roads at a cost of £4. 10s per day, including the driver’s service. The chairman and Cr. Barker, who had been a deputation to Wellington to press the county’s claims for a complete revaluation, reported that a reply on the matter could be expected shortly.
