VALUABLE YOUNGSTERS

TO PARADE AT WAMGANUI DETAILS OF THE COMPETITORS One of the most fascinating features about the Wanganui spn.j meeting is the manner in which the two-year-olds are. catered for. with the parade the first day, and the first babies' race of the eea-?ou, the Debutante Stakes, the second, day.

IT’OR the parade to-morrow there are 29 entries, and no doubt one or two more will have to be added. Among them are some highly-bred juveniles, not a few of them purchased at tall figures, while others are related to brilliant performers. This parade to-morrow consists of a barrier start from the two-furlong post and a sprint up to the judge's box, making a particularly straight run. With so many entries it is on the cards that there will be no less than three divisions. YOUNG AUSTRALIANS The 29 entered are not all Dominionbred youngsters for four of them vrere brought from Australia. Two of these. Salt Petrel and Jet Black, were purchased for 1 400 guineas and 1,000 guineas respectively, and they will carry the colours of a South Australian sportsman, Mr. E. E. Jolly, who will be represented by three youngsters in the parade. Mr. E. L. Riddiford will also have three youngsters carrying his colours, while others to be liberally represented are Mrs. M. A. Perry, Messrs. V. Riddiford, T. H. Lowry and W. T. Hazlett. SIRES REPRESENTED The representation of the different sires is as follows, those marked with an asterisk being represented on the turf for the first time this season: Leighton, by Roi Herode .. .. 3 ’-Chief Ruler, by The Tetrarch .. 4 Paper Money, by Greenback .. 4 *Tea Tray, by The Tetrarch .... 4 Tea Tray, by the Tetrarch .... 4 -Grandcourt, by Captivation .... 2 -Psychology, by Tracery 2 Paladin, by Polymelus 1 Absurd, by Sundridge 1 Gasbag, by Demosthenes 1 Humbug, by Absurd 1 Lord Quex, by Lemberg. ■ by Pommern 1 Autumn, by Auturanus 1 Magpie (Australia) 1 Saltash (Australia) 1 Quantock (Australia) 1

At this stage it may be apropos to discuss the two-year-old parade held at Marton last Saturday, when two or three very interesting juveniles were seen in action. The full list of those engaged to-morrow at Wanganui will be found set out below. YOUNGSTERS AT MARTON There was an interesting parade of two-year-olds at Marton on Saturday. Five lined up, and the result was not illuminating. The ground was very heavy, and so the youngsters were allowed to stride along without being bustled. Nevertheless the two furlongs

I' were run in iSsec. from a barr.er start, the quintette (with a three-year-old! Corbell, also in the field) meving off together. Prince Humphrey finished a bit in front of Irish Court, the three -year-old, and C’y’rille, with Arikinui ar.d Krightllke next, the latter being ease* up after leaving the barrier. P’ince Humphrey i is the two-year-old by’ Duke Humphrey from Shepherd Princess purchased i n Australia by’ Mr. C. G. Macindoe. the Auckland sportsman, who races Eden Hall and Le Choucas, and is trained at Papakura by’ J. T. Jamieson. SOON BE READY Prince Humphrey is a nice colt, splendidly balanced, and as yet he looks a bit on the big side. However, a couple of sprints, in adidtion to the parade at 'Wanganui, should bring hire, along well, so he can be expected to be ready for racing by th= time tot Avondale meeting, if not for the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui on Saturday’. Another good sort is Irish Court, by Grandcourt from Molleen Oge, train*! by- L. Goodwin at Greenmoadows for Mr. P. J. Annan, who now *aces Marsurd. This youngster is forward f>r racing, and it will be surprising if he does not get on the winning list early. RELATED TO VALICARE A half-brother to the Flying Valicare, Cy’rille. also took the eye. This colt is by Humbug, a son of Absurd, and if he can be trained to the top of his form will be a formidable two-yea--old. Unfortunately’ it is stated that he is by’ no means sound, anc therefore one will have to await events before further commenting. On looks alone, however, he would please anyone. Arikinui is by Chief Ruler from Celmisia, a good oerformer in her day, fcrd her first progeny* looks promising, pite the fact that at present not a great deal is thought of the colt by the connections. Inc dentally, the progeny of Chief Ruler will *prol>ably be found making a name for themselves this season. STABLE COMPANION OF RAPINE Most interest was taken in Knlgatlike, from the same stable as Rapine and Star Stranger, and a very racy looking young gentleman he is too. He seems to have got through a fair amount of work, ancl in action he moves nicely. Unfortunately’—from the public’s viewpont—lie was practically pulled up after leaving the barrier smartly*, so tha t it was difficult to judge him. Knightlike is a bay colt by Paladin from Sweet Charity, whose first foal he is.
