KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR
OLD WOMAN’S DEATH FREEMAN’S BAY FATALITY Through being knocked down by a motor-car in Patteson Street, Freeman’s Bay, about 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, Margaret Williams, aged 76, of 41 Napier Street, City, received injuries from which she died shortly after her admission to the Auckland Hospital. The deceased was passing out of Victoria Park, near Campbell’s Kindergarten School, and, not noticing the approaching car, stepped out on the road. Visibility was bad at the time owing to a slight rain. The driver of the car, Mr. H. Sallery, of Mason’s Avenue, Herne Bay, states that he did not see the woman until after the collision. An eye-witness said that a following car also ran over the deceased. A post-mortem examination was held at 9.30 this morning. An inquest was opened this morning before the coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., and adjourned after formal evidence of identification had been taken.
