MT. ROSKILL WATER

ONE TREE HILL SUPPLY The vexing problem as to how and from what quarters Mount Roskill Road Board could best obtain its future water supply came up at the meeting of that body last evening. The chairman, Mr. E. J. Jones, maintained that it would be very unfair to turn down the arrangements already entered into with the One Tree Hill Board, which was prepared to ensure a permanent supply of 2,000,000 gallons a month at lOd a 1,000 gallons. In quality the water was equally as good as that from the city. Several members objected to the proposed charge upon the board of £IOO for making a connection with the One Tree Hill supply, as they considered such expense rested with the suppliers. It was pointed out that as the reduced price of the One Tree Hill supply would mean a saving of £l6 2s monthly, the board would speedily recover the £IOO, and at the same time secure an increase of water pressure. Upon this latter point the engineer remarked that the board was at present receiving supplies from three distinct sources, and the greater number of different supplies meant increased volume of pressure, an important desideratum. The question of the city supply having been discussed at some length, the board finally decided to accept the offer from One Tree Hill, but left to the chairman a settlement with that authority as to the liability for the cost of making the connection.
