RANFURLY SHIELD MATCH ECHO
BROWNLIE-DONALD INCIDENT MR. McKENZIE’S POSITION Press Association. MASTERTON, Wednesday. The Wairarapa Rugby Referees’ Association met at Carterton this evening to consider the resignation of Mr. H. J. McKenzie from the secretaryship and Appointment Board of the association. Mr. McKenzie said his action was due to the attitude of the Wairarapa Union in its dismissal of the case against Q. Donald, whom he ordered off the field, with Maurice Brownlie, in the match against Hawke’s Bay. Mr. McKenzie said he had warned Donald before ordering him off. After the match the members of the Wairarapa team had used insinuating remarks. He intended to continue refereeing, but felt he would be more free if he relinquished his executive positions. At the request of the meeting, Mr. McKenzie agreed to hold the matter over until it is referred to a meeting of the New Zealand Referees’ Association. The association also passed a vote of confidence in Mr. McKenzie, and expressed the hope that he will see his way clear to continue with the work.
