BANKERS CONFER IMPORTANT DISCUSSIONS By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright NEW YORK, Saturday. The governor of the Federal Reserve Bank, Mr. Benjamin Strong, has issued a statement concerning his meeting with Mr. Montagu Norman, governor of the Bank of England, Dr. Schacht, president of the Rechsbank, and M. Rist, deputy-governor of the Bank of France, in the past week. Mr. Strong says the time was devoted to an exchange of views on financial and economic matters, policies of banks of issue, and like subjects. These naturally included the relationship of the respective rates of discount, the operation of the so-called gold exchange standard, which has had such extensive development since the war, expensive shipments of gold which necessarily affect the reserves of banks of issue, the purchasing power of gold and various proposals to promote closer co-operation.—A. and N.Z.
