MR. JOHN DREW Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright SAN FRANCISCO, Saturday. The death has occurred of Mr. John the well-known stage and screen a «or, aged 73.—A. and N.Z. Mr. John Drew was one of the leading American actors, and his wife was as popular as he was. He was born in Philadelphia in 1853 and made his debut •u the age of 20. In 1875 he was engaged il the famous manager and theatre *‘wner. the late Augustin Daly, and lie Ptayed at Dalys Theatre in New fork •*na elsewhere under his' management for ••rwF* y 20 years. He plaved in “Hamlet. utheU°" and other Shakespearean plays & n very many other plays by all the aaing older and modern playwrights. JH Played in London in ISB4 at the Toole’s Theatre, and also at Daly s \v2« alre - tho Gaiety and the Lyceum. He as a very accomplished actor in th \ oro,ls Parts, and was for many years “star’’ under the late Charles mHn s management. His screen work u V equally good, but he played in only * tew picture plays.
