BOTTLES AND PACKAGES
SIZE REGULATED MILK. TEA AND BUTTER Press Association. WELLINGTON, Friday. TT will be an offence after next A Wednesday to use bottles for the sale of milk or cream that are not of the sizes one quart, one and a-half pints, one pint, two gills, one gill, and half-gill, or to retail butter or tea in packages of any other quantity than loz, 2oz, 4oz, 6oz, Boz, 12oz, 11b, or multiples of 11b net avoirdupois weight.
The regulations which come into force next week, were gazetted last January. They provide that each bottle must have its capacity clearly and indelibly marked in or on the side, in letters or figures not less than onequarter of an inch in depth. The glass bottles must hold the correct quantity when filled to within oneeighth of an inch of the cap. This shall not apply when the bottles are provided with a clearly defined and indelible line marked on the bottle, and extending at least halfway round it, which indicates the correct capacity, and with the words “fill to the line” marked over the line prominently.
