RUMANIA’S WAY
AN ELECTION FARCE OPPOSITION SUPPRESSED MEETINGS FORBIDDEN By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Friday. The Vienna correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says despatches from Bucharest describe the extraordinary methods which have been taken in Rumania to ensure the victory at the general election of the Prime Minister, M. Bratiano. Opposition meetings have been forbidden throughout the country. Their election literature has been confiscated, and Socialist candidates in Transylvania have been imprisoned. Large numbers of Opposition voters have been called up for military training, thus making it impossible for them to vote. Other Oppositionists have been refused voting papers on various pretexts. —Sun. M. Bratiano recently succeeded Iris-brother-in-law, Count Stirbey, as Prime Minister in Rumania. The latter had been appointed by King Ferdinand in place of General Averescu, whom his Majesty had compelled to resign early in June.
