HUNTLY DEVELOPMENT

The financial position in connection with the “citizens’ ball’” was placed before a meeting of the Huntly Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Association on Thursday evening, and a credit balance of £57 6s was shown. A levy of 2s 6d per member helped to pay up arrears of the secretary’s outlay.

There was prolonged discussion regarding the proposed traffic bridge over the Waikato at Huntly. A communication was received from the Hon. R. F. Bollard, member for the district, promising his wholehearted support, and suggesting that the surrounding: local bodies combine with the object of furthering the project.

It was considered that a fair subsidy to expect from the Government would be 30s to the £ raised.

It was finally decided to draft a petition to the House, to be presented by the Minister of Internal Affairs.

It was reported that the committee which had interviewed the Railway Department concerning improved services had met with a sympathetic hearing. It was stated that nine cars, containing 400 passengers, left Huntly daily for the mines, thus warranting the provision of a workmen’s train.
