WEST COAST MINERS ARE RESTIVE

TROUBLE BREWING HOLIDAY ON PAY-DAY (.Special to THE SC' N.) CHRISTCHURCH:, Thursday. There is trouble brewing in the West Coast mines. Strong efforts are being made for the settlement of pay-day at the mines once a fortnight. On that day all but about 10 per cent, of the miners enjoy a holiday, while the others are employed in making repairs and general straightening up work. The unions now demanded that such men should also enjoy a holiday. A conference was held in Christchurch yesterday between representatives of the mine-owners and the unions, but no complete settlement was made, it is stated. As an outcome it is reported that the owners are to pay the expenses of the whole of the executive of the unions to another conferenco in Christchurch.
