COUNTRY HOCKEY
PLAYERS ENTERTAINED A complimentary smoke concert was given by the Auckland Hockey Association in honour of the visiting country hockey representatives at the Foresters’ Hall last evening when over 100 guests were present. Mr. L. C. Kent presided. .The manager of the Whakatane team, Mr. Tucker, said that before leaving for Auckland the players were determined to pay for themselves, and the trip had cost them nearly £3OO. Mr. Tucker remarked that to avoid this next year they were already organising dances and concerts. The other country managers expressed their thanks to the Auckland Hockey Association for the splendid way in which they had treated them during' their stay here. Several speakers touched on the marked improvement in the standard of country hockey. The visiting Indian Army team evidently acted as a great tonic to the game, and the present high standard of the play was due mainly to the lessons taught them by the brilliant visitors.
