Air Adventurers Plan Many Hazardous Flights

VENTURES OUTLINED By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. (Received 9.5 a.m.) NEW YORK, Thursday. iIPART from the ten announced flights from Europe to America, nearly as many other flights from America to Europe and other parts of the world are now scheduled.

T WO are from New York to Rome, one from New York to London, and one from New York to Europe. The exact destination of the last is not decided.

A prize of 30,000 dollars has been offered for a non-stop flight from Los Angeles to Tokio. Already there are two entrants.

A civilian round-the-globe flight in 15 days is also contemplated before the end of summer.—A. and N.Z.

FLIGHT TO SOUTH POLE

COMMANDER BYRD’S PLANS By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright LONDON,) Thursday. The Paris correspondent of “The Times” sends further details of the plans of Commander Byrd for his Antarctic flight. The expedition will consist of 50 men, including several scientists. Two airplanes, dogs and sledges ■will be despatched from the United States in the autumn, via New Zealand, to the edge of the ice-barrier in the Ross Sea, where a base will be established. One of the airplanes will be a triple-

engined machine and the other will have one engine. The smaller plane will be used for reconnoitring purposes.

Both machines will be equipped with floats which can be exchanged for skis when they are u.sed on the ice.

Commander Byrd says he will be prepared, to remain in the Antarctic for IS months. He believes there must be a large area of the Southern Continent not covered by snow and he hopes to reach the South Pole. The party will include several members of Byrd’s earlier Arctic expedition.—Times.

BISHOP FLIES TO CHURCH

The Bishop of Willochra, South Australia, flew on Sunday from London to Manchester in order to keep a preaching engagement.
