LATE TURF
A QUIET MORNING AUCKLAND HORSES AT TRENTHAM Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. The weather was fine enough at Trentham this morning. A large number of horses were out, but trotting and cantering was the general order. Hyama (A. Jenkins) was schooled over eight flights of hurdles, giving a very fair display. Jenkins will ride him in the Hack Hurdles on Tuesday. Beau Cavalier did solid pace work on the sand, and hit out very freely. He gave every indication that he had done plenty of solid work, and should not fail for want of condition. Potoanui, Glenidle and Highflown were given useful work. All looked in good order. Flitter is small to carry welter weights. RIDERS IN DOUBT Kawini looks particularly bright and well. There seems some doubt about the rider of this horse, but possibly W. J. Bowden will be up. In point of fact, there is general uncertainty as to riders in the Wellington Steeplechase. Up to this morning several leading cross-country jockeys were without definite engagements. York Abbey, Royal Abbey and Lord Star look to have done well since racing at Ellerslie. Wedding March djd a solid three rounds. It must be admitted he does not look a Great Northern -winner. Racegoers may be disappointed by his appearance, but his performances speak for themselves. Town Hall was given useful work. Arpent .and Royal Head arrived from the South yesterday. They lack nothing in condition. BIG AND STRONG Zircon looks bigger and stronger than ever. He pottered about the middle. His mate, Royal Form, looks rather on the mean side, but his performances speak for themselves. Subdivision, the third member of the party, looks rather on the rough side. Wailong (P. Mcßrearty) again went over the pony hurdles, giving useful displays. Tuki and Bonena both strode along very freely. Tuki looks lighter in condition than when he won at Ellerslie, but appears bright enough otherwise. C. Dawson rode Tuki and Bonena.
Dick appears to have recovered from the injury received at Ellerslie. He strode along freely enough. He was accompanied to the meeting by Anthonie, and Phantasy joins them on Tuesday.
Nothing pleased more than King Lu, who is in great condition. He did only pace work, lVt it is obvious he is very well.
Rahepoto has apparently done well since Ellerslie.
Other recent arrivals were Delightment. Passionate, Killute, King Arch, Waltzer, Te Kawana, Master Doon and Kamehameha.
