LATE TURF
TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE v GALLOPS ON HEAVY TRACK In view of the Wellington meeting next week, several horses were given a gallop at Ellerslie this morning prior to being entrained to-morrow for Trentram. On No. 3 grass track, Beau Cavalier was sent freely over a round, and he got through his task well, pulling up strongly. In a bout over six furlongs, Passionate proved too good for Killute, beating him home by a few lengths and covering the distance in 1.22 3-5. Killute did not appear to go too well.| SPRINTER’S TASK Master Doon left three-quarters of a mile behind in 1.22 2-5, and was running on at the finish. He has had a good preparation and should strip fit at Trentham. The two improved hurdlers, Kamehameha and Rahepoto, finished on terms at the conclusion of a round, taking 1.49 1-5 to go the distance. They cut the last six furlongs out in 1.26, and as they appeared to be running on their performance was a good one. Delightment was brought down from Whangarei yesterday, but was not asked to do much this morning, being allowed to gallop at half pace. THE HURDLERS Blue Sky and Simplicitus, ridden by S. Anderson and J. Sharkey, respectively, were jumped over two of the schooling hurdles, and gave a good showing. Their trainer, Bert Rae. has the pair very well, and they will no doubt be seen in a favourable light when next asked to sport silk. JOTTINGS Scaramouche has joined F. Stenning’s stable, and w T ill in future work under that mentor’s tuition. Fiery Lad, who is in P. Conway’s stable," is bowling along freely, and is getting into racing shape.
