A.A.A. ACTIVITIES

The service officer of the A.A.A., Mr. Ray Champtaloup, has returned from a trip North, where, together with Mr, Geo. W. Hutchinson, he addressed meetings at Whangarei, Dargaville and Maungaturoto. At these meetings the aims and organisation of the A.A.A. were presented and discussed, and a number of new members were enrolled. CONDITION OF ROADS On the return journey to Auckland it was found that, following on the recent heavy rains, many roads were under water. Motorists are notified that, at the present moment, the road ,to Helensville is under water at Waimauku. The road is full of potholes and the main route, along the Lincoln Road, is impossible. Intending travellers would be well advised to take the longer route, through Swanson. At Rewiti the road is under water. It should be pointed out, however, that this is merely the condition of these roads at the time of going to press, and that they may possibly be available later in the week. Nevertheless the countryside all along shows signs of flood, and even a short continuation of the 7 heavy rains will keep the flood waters high. MOTORISTS' CAMPING SITE The question of the motorists’ camping site at Grey Lynn is still under consideration with the city engineer, and will probably be dealt with by the council at an .early date. HAMILTON BRANCH The annual meeting is being held to-night, and will be attended by the president and members of the council from Auckland. A review of the work done by the Hamilton branch during the year has been drawn up, and is to be presented to-night by the president. The report states that the membership of the branch has increased to 371. During the year the new by-law governing the beam of light from the headlamps of cars came into operation, and over 300 owners had their lamps adjusted. Only a fraction of the number of owners have had their lights adjusted, says the report, and responsibility would rest on the motorist who had not complied with the by-law in the event of an accident in which the question of lights was involved. «*

At the request of the branch the Railway Department has put its Hamilton and Frankton railway crossings in order. Comment is made on the fact that the Main Highways Board's work has been retarded through county councils neglecting or refusing to provide their quota for main highway construction.

It is hoped, with the co-operation of all local bodies concerned, to select a suitable motor camp for Hamilton during the coming year. THE NORTH ISLAND UNION

The North Island Motor Union has suggested to the South Island Union that the two bodies should hold a conference on questions of reciprocity of membership privileges, third party insurance, and Customs duty on visiting cars. The whole matter is now under consideration.
