KAWARAU GOLD SEEKERS UNEASY

INDIGNATION EXPRESSED NO NEWS FROM ENGINEER (Special to THE SUN.') DUNEDIN, Saturday. A representative meeting of the Kawarau claim-holders was lield at Cromwell to discuss the call by the Kawarau Company of £ 30. The reasons for the call were embodied in a letter to the local company, and the amount of the call, together with the arrears on the previous calls, is necessary to meet outstanding liabilities. The meeting decided to resist the payment of the call pending the receipt of certain important information from the company on financial matters. The visit of Messrs. Hay and Vickerman Company's engineer to investigate in regard to the removing of an obstruction in the river was keenly anticipated, but resulted in further disappointment. He arrived about 3, o’clock on Saturday morning, says the "Dunedin Star’s" Cromwell correspondent, and departed early on Monday morning, having, it is said, inspected the river in that interval, but the results of his examination are not known. The local holders were keenly disappointed. They were anxious to seek his advice, and had arranged with the parent company’s representative accordingly. What happened only served to afford food for further unfavourable discussion regarding the whole scheme, and, taking a line from the discusions heard among those closely concerned in the scheme financially, some interesting developments may be expected. Work is being done on the river only in a few isolated places. Others are waiting for the lower level which is. confidently expected, but which is slow in being reached.
