EUROPEAN REMEDY HAS BAD EFFECT

HINDU’S WHISKY CURE SEQUEL IN COURT 'pHE prisoner had Influenza and he understood that whisky was a sood European cure, said Mr. F. D. McLiver, pleading for a Hindu, Basant Singh, before his Honour Mr. Justice Reed this morning. It was explained that while the European cure was taking effect the prisoner had presented a cheque to a Morrinsville storekeeper for £l2, the amount being duly! paid over. His Honour: Did he have any money in his own bank account? Counsel admitted that was not sufficient to meet the cheque had it been drawn on the right bank. + , In P ris °ner’s favour, it was stated that he had been in the country for seven years, and was a hard working and industrious labourer. He had not previously been before the court. Through an interpreter, his Honour explained to prisoner that he would be given a chance to redeem himself by admission to probation for a period of tyvo years on condition that he repaid the £l2 to the storekeeper and took out a prohibition order, and paid costs amounting to £6 19s 6d. Time to pav was allowed.
