CAME FOR THREE YEARS
STAYED FOR THIRTY-FIVE A TRIBUTE TO AUSTRALIA “T CAME to Australia for three years and 1 stayed for 35. I don’t think I would like to live anywhere else.” This tribute to Australia came from Sir Jarvie Hood, one of Sydney’s best known physicians. He is making a health trip to Vancouver and back on the Aorangi. Sir Jarvie considers that the teaching of medicine and surgery in the Sydney University is very good indeed, but that every young doctor should go Home when he has finished his training. Australians have a very high opinion of New Zealand medical men, said Sir Jarvie. They were very impressed when they attended the British Medical Conference at Dunedin. Sir Jarvie is a keen traveller. Five years ago he went to Iceland, a country which had fascinated him since boyhood. Every time he goes to Europe on holiday he selects a different country to visit, and has now travelled through most of them.
