LIFE MEMBERSHIP FOR PADEREWSKI
R.S.A.’S TRIBUTE The first civilian honorary life member of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ . Association is Ignace Jan Paderewski, the famous Polish pianist. The honour was conferred, and a gold badge of membership given, after his concert in Auckland on Saturday evening. M. Paderewski has done a great deal toward restoring order and prosperity in his native land, and has on various occasions given over £7,000 in England, and donated the proceeds of concerts in Australia and Wellington to the returned soldiers. His Wellington concert realised over £SOO. The presentation was made by Lieut-enant-Colonel R. G. Milligan, in the absence of General Sir Andrew Russell. M. Paderewski said he did not look for reward for anything he had done, but he deeply appreciated the honour. Poland’s gains after the war had only been made possible by the sacrifices of Allied troops.
