Masked Men and A Stolen Safe
YESTERDAY’S BURGLARIES TWO DARiNG THIEVES V\7HILE the police were busy * . yesterday, inquiring into the series of burglaries at Epsom on Thursday night, two of the thieves were busily engaged at Mount Roskill trying to open the safe stolen from De Luen and Hardley’s garage. The safe had boon taken to a large and secluded section near Three Kings, and a passer-by’s attention was attracted by the sound of hammering on metal. Two men, with a cold-chisel and hammer, wearing handkerchiefs over their faces, were seen trying to open the safe. They made off as soon as they realised that they had been seen. The hinges had been sawn off the safe, but it was built to withstand attack and, though practically useless now, it was recovered without the contents having been disturbed.
