GET ON THE GRASS
Of the fourteen events contested at the recent Auckland fixture, nine of the winners represented this province, the remaining five winners hailing from Southern areas. But of the nine provincial victors, only one was trained at Alexandra Park, which proves conclusively that the arguments put forward by THE SUN in favour of better training facilities at Epsom were well warranted. From Mangere, where the grass circuit is open for work at certain periods, five winners were returned, while at Te Awamutu and Te Kauwhata, the successful candidates had opportunities for obtaining grass work. Apart from the question of a better training track at Alexandra Park, the time has arrived when the powers that be should consider the advisability of opening the outside of the grass circuit on certain days prior to each fixture.
