U.A.O.D. INSTALLATION

An unusual, and in so far as Whangarei is concerned, a unique ceremony was carried out in the lodge room last evening, when a public installation of officers of the Whangarei Lodge of Druids No. 38 was witnessed by guests of the lodge, including a number of ladies. The introducing officers, Bro. F. Voice, P.D.P., said that the invitations had been extended in order that by attending the somewhat unusual function the guests could see a little of the business of the order. D.P. Bro. J. Hamblyij was installing officer, and he called upon the retiring Arch Druid, Bro. M. Hawken. to leave the chair, and then invested him with the collar of Junior Past Arch. Bro. L. H. Postleweight was installed as Arch Druid, and other officers to whom impressive charges relative to their office appointments were made were as follow:—Vice-Arch Druid. Bro. Hart; secretary, Bro. R. H. Hughes: treasurer. Bro. M. Hawken; outside guardian, Bro. Hanbury; inside guardian, Bro. Lyon; A.D. Bards, Bros. Newbury and Humphrey; V.A.D. Bards, Bros. Mulholland and Tudohope; delegates to the United Friendly Societies’ Executive*, Bros. Postleweight and Hart. The following presentations were then made by P.D.P. Bro. Hawken; Past Arch diploma, Bro. T. Gough; P.D.P. diploma, Bro. W. Flower; P.D.P. collars, Bros. D. H. Sraeal, H. N. Gerssler and W. Flower; Past Arch collars, Bros. W. Flower,* J. Kitt, J. Hamblyn. W. Phillips and T. Gough. During the evening, when in harmony, an orchestra under nhe baton of Mr. Collier played a number of items, and songs were contributed by Madame Brainsby and Messrs. Newberry and Taylor, recitations by “Skipper’’ Franand musical items by Messrs. Rhodes and Ware. Supper was served, and a novel and pleasant evening was terminated by expressions ot thanks to those who had contributed toward .making it so.
