SWAMP TO BEAUTY PARLOUR
(From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The party of Maoris who invaded Government Buildings today to pay their respects to the Prime Minister and Sir Mali Pomare may have been from the “raupo swamps of Taranaki,” as the old chieftain who led them phrased It, but they were by no means so secluded as to be immune from fashion’s whim. It was noticeable that of the 14 wahines who performed the poi dance no less than 12 were neatly shingled, and the two who had kept their hair were both of advanced years.
