BATTING COLLAPSES

NEW ZEALAND UNLUCKY PLAY ON WET WICKET OXFORD IN WINNING POSITION STARTING promisingly in their first innings against Oxford, the New Zealand team, in the later stages, was handicapped by a wet wicket and the innings closed for 263, leaving a deficiency of 77. Oxford in its second innings lost two wickets for 113.

},, coW«. — Press Association. — Copyright Reed. 10.50 a.m. LONDON, Monday. TTEAVY rain on Sunday and showers 1 at intervals to-day affected the pitch. The Oxford bowlers did not seize their opportunity for two hours, enabling Blunt and Mills to score at a good pace. Blunt’s dismissal was almost accidental. He cut a wide ball which Greenstock, stepping backward to point, dived and caught inches from the ground. Mills played immaculately, and Lowry was also master of the situation, but he was bowled off his pads by a sharply inturning ball. Oxford's fielding and bowling were considerably improved, but Greenstock gave Allcott over-many opportunities. Dacre batted for a brief period up to his Lord’s form, but an improvement in Oxford’s out-cricket prevented the scoring from being high as was once promised. Allcott's recovery has strengthened New Zealand’s attack and he should have had Crawley’s wicket but for a short leg dropped catch.
