LOCAL-BODY ELECTIONS
TAKAPUNA CONTEST ANOTHER PARTY APPEARS The appearance of a second party to contest the Takapuna Borough Council elections promises a keen contest for the council vacancies. In addition to the seven candidates already announced by the Takapuna Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association, another party has put forward what is known as the “United Borough Tick’et,” consisting- of nine candidates. The* ticket is headed by the sitting Mayor, Mr. J. D. Morison, who will be opposed by the association’s nominee, Mr. J. W. Williamson, the deputymayor. The nine “United” candidates, who have been chosen from the ‘'different sections of the borough, are as follows: Milford: Messrs. J. H. Ashby, C. Mackley, and C. F. Somerfield. Belmont: Mr. R. H. Greville. Bayswater: Messrs. F. E. N. Gaudin and O. A. Moller. Central Takapuna: Messrs. G. H. Collins, H. R. J. Preston, and G. Creamer. The. platform adopted by the party contains the following planks: The contract system for works wherever practicable; a completion for concreting the balance of the main roads; provision for clearing and tarring footpaths; better bathing and life-saving-facilities on the beaches; reclamation fox - a spoi’ts ground; economy in administration ; a permanent, safe, cheap, and economic svstem of transport; an adequate water supply, apart from the lake, including the freeing of the lake watershed for settlement; the eai'ly completion of the sewerage system; improved sti'eet lighting; and unanimous effort for the welfare of the boi'ough as a whole. For the Waitemata Power Board election the “United” ticket consists of Messrs. J. D. Morison, R. H. Greville, and A. E. Gi'eenslade.
