ARMY MAN MULCTED LOST OVER £IO,OOO AN AMAZING CASE Bp Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Wednesday. One of the most amazing cases in the history of blackmailing was revealed at Bow -Street when four men were charged with obtaining £ 10,859 from a retired army captain whose name was not disclosed. After an evening at the theatre the captain was inveigled into a bedroom in London where two men immediately secured £SO from him under a threat of calling in the police. After that, another member of the gang secured £95 from him for a passage to Algeria and £l2O on the plea that his wife was ill and then £2OO for his wife’s funeral. The demands continued throughout 1925 including £IOO passage money for two men going to Australia. Finally a bogus detective named Lynch appeared, and philanthropically promised to deal with the blackmailers, but quickly he demanded £l,lOO and then £2,000, until cheques which aggregated £IO,OOO had been issued. • The case was adjourned.
