FOR OLYMPIC GAMES

DOMINION BOXERS LIGHTER DIVISIONS ONLY AN AUSTRALIAN VISIT (.From Our Resident Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Endeavours are to be made to have New Zealand well represented at the Olympic Games at Amsterdam next year so far as boxing is concerned, and the New Zealand Boxing Council is at present reminding various associations throughout the Dominion of their obligations to turn out the best material procurable among amateurs in lighter classes. Mr. George Aldridge, secretary of the New Zealand Boxing Association, thinks this country will probably get three or four boxers away to the Games as representatives of the lighter divisions. Nothing higher than welter-weight is likely to be sent away. The deciding factor in this, however, will be the performance of the boxers at the New Zealand championships which are to take place at Invercargill on August 16. It is quite on the cards that if suitable arrangements can be made with the authorities controlling the sport in Australia, a team will go from New Zealand to the Commonwealth at the end of the current year, or failing that, a visit by an Australian team would be likely. Negotiations are being made at the present time for something in this nature. The Napier Boxing Association is cabling to Australia for the return of Hughie Dwyer, who had a great record when he was in the Dominion over a year ago, and who proved a great draw to New Zealand audiences.
