NATIONAL AIR FORCES
LIMITATION PROPOSAL BRITAIN AGREES By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright GENEVA, Tuesday. In discussing a limitation of air forces the Preparatory Commission on Disarmament to-day took a favourable view of the Swedish delegate’s proposal that there should be a limitation. both of horse-power and in the number of piachines. The purpose of this would be to avoid encouraging countries to build large bombing machines in order to make up for the limit on the number of aeroplanes they could build, and also to avoid any encouragement to build a large number of aeroplanes by reducing their horse-power. Two tables will be drawn up, indicating respectively the maximum horse-power and the number of aircraft which would be at the disposal of each State. The United States, the Belgian and the German delegates approved of the scheme. Viscoant Cecil accepted for Britain, with, the reservation that his Government must endorse his acceptance. It was felt that countries should commit themselves to an aviation agreement for five years only, in view of the changes and developments which may be expected in this branch of defence. —A. and N.Z.
