HIPPODROME AND EMPRESS

“CARBINE’S HERITAGE” At the Hippodrome and Empress Theatres “Carbine’s Heritage,” a sporting romance made entirely by a New Zealand firm, will be presented to-day for the first time in the Dominion. Those who saw a private screening formed a high opinion of the results of this first definite attempt to produce a high-class film in New Zealand. The story is written round a descendant of the famous Carbine, who was foaled at Colonel Walmsley’s Sylvia Park stud. The exciting and dramatic incidents in the career of Maori Boy, culminating in his winning the Ellerslie Summer Cup and a fortune for his owner, are a feature of the film. Full advantage has been taken of the facilities given by the Auckland Racing Club for filming the beauties of the Ellerslie course in summer. A strong cast is headed by Mdlle. Lola D’Ormonde, Queenie Grahame and Stuart Douglas. At the initial screening Mr. V. H. Potter, M.P., will speak upon the film and New Zealand cinema enterprises.
