A POPULAR MINISTER
FAREWELL AT DE^'/ONPORT On Monday evening the congregation of the Devonport MethodVst Church farewelled its minister of tfn® last five years, the Rev. J. Ernest Papons, who is on his way to take up a nOVv charge at Palmerston North. Mr. E. O. Chivers, who presided, expressed regret at the departurv rendered necessary by the itinerarct system of the Methodist Church, %of a minister who had done so muclx as Mr. Parsons to weld the congregation into a harmonious entity. The miiilsters of all other denominations jJi Devonport were on the platform. A present by the congregation to' its late minister took the form of a roll of bank notes. The members of the Devonport Bowling Club, in which Mr. Parsons has been a conspicuoLis player, have also made him a gift.
