YACHTING SEASON
NEARING THE END CLOSING DAY, APRIL 23 The closing of the 1926-27 yachting season, which, like the opening, is a day when all clubs combine for cruising and harbour races, is now little more than a fortnight away—April 23. At a meeting of the delegates of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association last night starting times and courses were decided upon. The first boats, A and B classes, will be sent away at 2.20 p.m., and the others at eight-minute intervals —C and E, 2.28 p.m.; H, 2.36 p.m.; N and L, 2.44 p.m.; Launches, 2.52 p.m.; M, 3 p.m.; V and Star, 3.8 p.m.; S, 3.16 p.m.; T, X and Y, 3.24 p.m.; and Z at 3.32 p.m. Owing to the large number of entries anticipated for V and S classes it was decided to divide them. The courses will be: For A, B, C, E, H, I, L and X—From the starting line between the end of King’s Wharf and a buoy moored approximately north, thence round Duder’s Spit mark to the finishing line in Islington Bay, observing Sand Spit, Bean Rock luminous buoys (both going out and coming in) and Beacon off Rangitoto near Islington Bay, as fairway marks. For M, V, S, T, X, Y and Star classes —From the starting line round the Sandspit, thence round Resolution, thence round the outer mark of the starting line, twice around. Z Class —As above but only once round. Launches —From the same starting line to Islington Bay, finishing between the launch “Daisy” and mark, and observing Sandspit, Bean Rock and Beacon off Rangitoto near Islington Bay as fairway marks. The first boat to finish will be awarded the Lipton Cup for Jellicoe class boats. No entrance fee will be charged for this race.
