WAITEMATA POWER

DECISIONS OF BOARD A deputation from Glenfield residents waited on the Waitemata Power Board yesterday to report progress of a canvassing campaign in order that electric power may be taken into the district. “Let us have the result of the canvass,” said the chairman. “You have the sympathy of the board, which is out to help the district.” The Devonport Borough Council advised that it had referred the charges for supplying power to the Takapuna pumping station to a special committee which would confer with the chairman of the board. It had been decided to defer the erection of electric pumps in the meantime. It was stated that pending bringing down of the report of the Water Commission, it was doubtful whether Devonport would go ahead with its pumping scheme. Gauvain and McLeod, consulting engineers, wrote suggesting that, if the Devonport Borough Council wanted street lights switched off at 1 a.m. instead of midnight, it should pay “all night rates,” as further capital expenditure might be necessary in order to arrange for the switching off of the lights at the desired time. The board decided that if no capital expenditure were needed the borough might have the lights until 1 a.m. at reduced “all night” rates.
