NEW CRUISER.

DOMINION BASE. H.M.S. Due On Sunday. ; RATINGS RETURN. Press Association —Conyriaht. Auckland, August 31. Three days ahead of her expected date of arrival. H.M.S. Achilles, the new cruiser which is to replace the Diomede on the New Zealand station, is now due at Auckland from the Mediterranean on Sunc-jr. She will berth at the Calliope wharf in the position occupied by the Dunedin, which will be taken on to the dock. Friends and relatives of the cruiser's company will be admitted to th" dockyard. Serving in the Achilles, whose date of arrival was recently announced by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, as September 9, are New Zealand ratings who were in the Diomede when she left the Dominion last year for special service under the Admiralty. They will be returning to their homes after an absence of about 12 months. The Achilles will be the first of the tv. a Leander class cruisers for service on the New Zealand station. When she arrives the commodore. Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond. will transfer to her with five of his officers. The other new cruiser, the Leander, is expected to arrive at Auckland towards the end of the year or early next year.
