GAOL FOR MOTORIST.

Charges of unlawfully converting a motor-car to his own use and of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor vehicle were denied by a Maori, George Mia Renata, aged 29, an unemployed labourer, before Mr. F. K. Hunt', S.M., at the Otahuhu Police Court to-day. A third charge of having no driver's license was admitted. Renata was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on the charge of conversion, and two months' en the intoxication charge, the terms to be cumulative. Charges of negligent driving, failing to stop after being involved in an accident, and failing to report an accident, were admitted by George Alfred Carl Whitehead, hotel porter, of Rotorua. "You are fortunate you are not. charged under the new regulations which came into force next :'ny," said Mr. Hunt, in warning the defendant that he would have been liable to a fine of up to £SOO. Whitehead was fined £lO and 10s costs on the charge of failing to stop and £2 and 10s costs on , each of the two other charges, with cancellation of his license and disqualification, from holding one foi 1? months.
