Exploding in a she'et of'flame and a vast plume of smoke, a gasometer at Dewsbury (Yorkshire), 1,250,000 ft. in capacity, blew off its cover and killed two cousins, Samuel and James Gledhill, whose bodies were discovered among the debris. . - : tsf jjfH! The firemen prevented the ignition of an adjacent gasometer containing 750,000 cubic feet. The explosion cut off the supply to a portion of Dewsbury and damaged the surrounding works.
