I HUGE LONDON CROWDS i i l VISITORS EXPECTED TO NUMBER HALF A MILLION Press Association—Copyright 1 London, April 30. London had a foretaste at the weekend of the great crowds to bo expected during the jubilee week. Hundreds of thousands of people in cars and on foot paraded through the streets to sec the decorations and watch the flood-light-ing rehearsals. So great was the crush that special • police reinforcements were required to direct the traffic. It is estimated that London’s jubilee visitors will exceed 500,000, these including a great number from the Dominions, as well as many from the United States and Europe. All the Dominion and other Prime Ministers at London will drive in the procession to St. Paul’s Cathedral for next Monday’s thanksgiving service. The Daily Telegraph understands that about 3D bands provided by regulars, territorials and police will be stationed along the jubilee procession route to entertain the waiting crowds. The latest Dominion Prime Minister to arrive is General Kertzog (South Africa) who reached Southampton from Capetown.
In a brief statement he conveyed cordial greetings from the people of South Africa to those in Britain, ending with sincere congratulations on the “great and happy event which is shortly to be commemorated throughout the Commonwealth and which to them, no less than to you, will constitute an occasion of deep-felt joy and gratitude.” The chain of 750 beacons to be lit on jubilee night throughout the country has been completed by Boy Scoulk
