Stratford Evening Post With which is Incorporated "THE EGMONT SETTLER" (Established 1890) WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 1935 Stratford’s Winter Show

‘TO be or not to be: that is the question.” The question in point is whether the Stratford Poultry and Winter Show Asso ciation is to continue its remarkable expansion of the last 10 years, and it hinges entirely on the amount and extent of support Stratford is prepared to accord the Association in its efforts to secure building accommodation for its annual event.

The possibility of the Association reverting to its birthplace—the t own Hall—for its show is just as intolerable as the possibility of the Association being reduced to a moribund state —yet they are possibilities likely to occur if the Association cannot make satis factory arrangements for housing its splendid annual display. The problem has exercised the minds of the executive for a considerable time, and with commendable effort attempts have been made, in divers ways, to place the accommodation question on a sound and more or less permanent footing. The result has not been as successful as the Association desired, and now it is literally taking the bull by the horns and calling a public meeting of citizens to discuss "ways and means.” The meeting will be held in the Borough Chambers tonight at eight o’clock and the outcome of it will bear the fate of the Stratford Poultry and Winter Show Association. 1 hus moral support will be a big factor in de termining the destiny of the Association. A large attendance will be indicative of public sympathy and support and on that, at all times, the association’s prosperity and progress have depended.

Stratford cannot afford to let slip this opportunity of once and ! for all placing the Association in 1 a position where it can carry on | its good work, for it is a symbol ! of all that is productive and proI gressive in the district. Ihe body j controlling the Show is a most j efficient one —as proved h}' the i success of the Association in the | past. Its only handicap now — i and it is a handicap large enough jto warrant the action that has j been taken —is lack of Show ac- ' commodation. Quite justifiably I the Association is appealing to the | public for help and probably it jis the best thing that could be | done. It is an institution con- | ducted solely for the benefit of this town and district, and as such merits full support. It boosts Stratford as a commercial, farming and industrial centre, and boosting Stratford is worth while, for it has all the potentialities of a flourishing district—some of them already highly developed. Is it too much to expect, then, that next year (temporary accommodation has been arranged for this year) Stratford’s Winter Show will be accommodated in a new ‘‘home” sufficiently large to allow its expansion in its voung robustness and thus advance Stratford still further as a centre equipped with every advantage calculated to make it j worthy of the name of modern j progress. j
