The discovery of the Fiji goldfields was undoubtedly the find of tiie century, said Mr. P. Costello, Suva, when interviewed on the arrival of the Monowai from Sydney to-day. The finding of the Tevua field, ho said, was due to one man, Mr. W. Borthwick, whose experience was glined at Waihi. There were now six mines there, and there might be more. Share prices were going up. When he arrived at Melbourne Aloha £lO shares were selling at £24, A fortnight later buyers were offering £650 and sellers were asking £9OO. Mr. Costello, who is interested in the development of the mines, has been in Fiji for 26 years. He will leave Auckland on Saturday on his return.
