Antarctic Air Mail Stamp, Mail from the Byrd Antarctic Expedition has arrived in Wellington, and 8 letters which have ai rived in a local newspaper cffice, bear the special expedition stamp, postmarked Little America, January 30, 1934, or 1935. All are stamped “Little America Mail, received Sau Francisco MaiVh 25, 1935.” Those dated .1935 bear a special cachci impressed in black. This depicts a penguin wearing a ‘U.S. Mail’ satchel, handing a letter to a colleague. Below this is the inscription, “Byrd Antarctic Fxpcdition 11., Little America, Antarctica, Second Cancellation Mail.” The 1934 mail has not received this cachet and only bears a three-line inscription. “This letter has been delayed for one year owing to difficulties in transportation at Little America, Antarctia.”
